just before 6.30 a.m., a bunch of Academy police recruits were

out on a morning run. This is in South Whittier, about 25 of them. And slamming right into

them came a man behind the wheel of an SUV. He hit 25 recruits. Several of them were still

hospitalized, including one whose condition was just downgraded

to grave. The man that was arrested is 22-year-old Nicholas Gutierrez from Diamond Bar.

Nothing was said until yesterday, at least by him or any of his family members, when he and his

parents and his attorney talked to NBC4
