On this program, Debbie Millman talks with Public Radio's John Hawkenberry

about designing his morning news show the takeaway

about journalism in the era of Facebook and Twitter and about the unfriendly way he

learned he was about to have his fifth child.

And I hear this scream from the living room,

And I looked at this little pregnancy test thing

and it said pregnant on it in the nastiest font.

Here's Debbie Millman. If you listen to public radio,

odds are you know this voice.

Good old French President Nicholas Sarkozy.

Not terribly popular these days, but quite the entertainer.

It's of course John Hockenberry, host of the morning show The Takeaway.

You might also remember seeing him when he was a reporter for ABC and NBC and if you've

been around for a while you'll remember his reporting for NPR from the first Gulf War,

wheelchair and All.

But did you also know that he wrote and appeared in his own off-Broadway play, that in his

spare time he's written a novel and a memoir.

That in 2007 he was named a distinguished fellow at the MIT Media Lab.
