On November 30th, 1949, Timothy Evans entered the police station in the small Welsh town of Myrithel Titville.

Walking up to the detective on duty, Evans said, quote, I have disposed of my wife, unquote.

When the detective asked what precisely he meant by that, Timothy replied, quote,

I have put her down the train, unquote. So less than a year later, Timothy Evans would be

dead, hanged by the neck, protesting his innocence to the end. When it was revealed three years

later that his downstairs neighbor was a serial killer,

a very famous one at that,

police and the public realized that a horrifying miscarriage of justice had taken place.

An innocent man had been put to death.

The case of Timothy Evans eventually led to the abolition of the death penalty in Britain.
