We'll go ahead and get started.

And as we mentioned, when we get started here,

and just a minute we'll be starting in Gospel According to St. John,

chapter 14, verse 25.

Just to get us caught up to where we were,

we're in the midst of sort of this farewell discourse that Christ gives to his disciples before his crucifixion.

We picked up last time right after Judas had left the room at the Last Supper or the Mystical

Supper where Christ predicted that

St. Peter was going to deny him. And then segued from that statement that St. Peter was

going to deny him into giving this sort of parting discourse, which especially so far has sort of really focused on

sort of reassurance. Not only reassurance to St. Peter that he ought not fall into despair

over what is about to happen, but also reassurance that even though Christ is going to be very shortly

no longer present with the disciples in the way that he has been up to that point, that he is

still going to be present with them and that that's going to take place through the promise

that he began to describe last time,

the promise of the Holy Spirit coming.

And so as we pick up tonight,

that's really where we're going to pick up

because Christ is going to be speaking more about the Holy Spirit
