And when we get started in just a minute, we'll be picking up in John chapter 13, verse 31.

We left off.

We had just read about St. John's account of the Last Supper or the Mystical Supper, which as we noted, last time, is in several ways very different from the other Gospels.

The chief reason being he doesn't describe the Eucharist in detail.

And we talked about how that is most likely because the other three gospels and St. Paul's

account in First Corinthians had already been written before St. John wrote this. And so that

ground had sort of been covered. Plus, they were celebrating the Eucharist continuously in the church.

And so St. John didn't feel the need to reiterate the same thing again.

And so St. John used his time to talk about some of the elements,

Jesus washing the disciples' feet, some of the other events surrounding the Last Supper

that weren't recorded in those other places, to sort of flesh that out,

being as he was there.

And so immediately before we left off, Judas had gone out to betray Jesus.

Jesus indicated that he knew.

This was not a surprise. This was not some failure on Jesus. Jesus indicated that he knew. This was not a surprise. This was not some

failure on Jesus' part to recognize that one of his disciples was no good. This was, this was,

Jesus knows all about it and it's sort of part of the plan in the sense that it is part of how he

is going to lay down his life
