Summary

In our second week of pulling back the curtain of our life, we're getting real and honest. Do you struggle with entitlement? Do you struggle to be happy for others because secretly you feel that God owes you? Jealousy comes to play in this feeling many times, especially when someone else seems to get the blessing we feel we are owed.   Links: The Hard Good The Hard Good Bible Study Jesus Over Everything Free Bonuses - The Show Up Guides     Learn more about Lisa at LisaWhittle.com   Produced by Unmutable™

Hey, thanks for showing up. I'm Lisa Whittle and welcome to the Jesus Over Everything show, affectionately known as Joe, where this season it is all about truth telling, finding the good, and showing up for our lives today no matter what has happened even yesterday.

Something that is really resonating with people who have read

0:21.9

or are reading my latest book, The Hard Good, is having a hard time cheering for people who get what

0:27.3

you want. And I talk really honestly about jealousy in that chapter. Might surprise you to know,

0:33.1

I don't shame us in this feeling. Rather, I tell us what to actually do about it. But I want to

0:38.6

pull the curtain back a little more on it and help us with the behind the scenes why of it,

0:44.1

because that can really help us get to the bottom of it to change. If you're in, I'm in,

0:49.6

so let's get into it.

1:03.1

Last week, we talked about being stuck and not being able to accept the hard circumstances in our life,

1:07.6

past and present, because we're often too busy being offended by our life.

1:11.7

Today, I want to talk about something else that can be sneaky and go unrecognized.

1:18.8

It's this idea of entitlement. Let me ask you a question. Could it be that you struggle to be genuinely happy for someone else because deep down you feel like God owes you? Now, of course,

1:26.3

being spiritual like we are, the answer is no way. Of course, we don't

1:29.1

feel like God owes us. But I don't want us to be over spiritual today, okay? I want us to be real.

1:34.7

So let's take that hat off. Let's just talk. Let's just be honest. Let's be real. Let's get down to it.

1:40.4

A lot of us deep down inside in a place feel like God owes us on some level. It is an

1:47.9

underlying problem that we haven't actually verbalized because, again, we don't want to say that

1:53.7

about God. One, we reverence Him. We respect God. We love God. We know cognitively that he has been good to us. But what about

2:03.6

this corner of our heart that we haven't addressed, where we might feel like he owes us?

2:10.6

And we might not even be thinking that way, but are we behaving that way in some way? Because

2:16.6

listen, he's been good to us, but we would like for him to be a little better, right?

2:21.8

Especially if he's going to be good to them. See, that's where it really gets into it.
