Devo Show Thursday on Joe, and we are unpacking phrases Christians love. The word unpacking is one of those

words Christians love, don't we? Well, it's a good word to describe pulling things out and looking at them

a little more closely. It's what we're doing this month and next as we explore some of our most often

used and, yes, overused, and I dare say even beloved Christian phrases like this one today.

God showed up.

Have you ever heard that said in a Christian environment, maybe a church service, a concert, any

number of gatherings, a conference?

Full disclosure, I'm 100% positive.

I've said it before myself.

But let's look at it for a few minutes, because if we

really think about what we're saying, it may not make much sense. First off, I want to

acknowledge I'm stepping on some of our most beloved Christian phrases for the next few weeks,

and I know for some of us that feels a little

sacred. I'm not asking you to change your mind or even agree with me on these. I just want you to

consider what I'm saying, because one of the things I don't think we do as much as we should,

especially in modern Christianity, is think through things. Discern, way, consider, search scripture, and vet our own form of

Christianese to really back up with the word what things that we say mean and if they are

actually even true or if we have just accepted phrases in our Christian culture that we have said

for so long we now believe our gospel,
