Hi, and welcome to Jesus Over Everything, a short practical podcast that mixes encouragement,

0:05.1

the Bible, how-toes, and fantastic interviews for the listener on the go. I'm Lisa Whittle, and I welcome

0:10.8

you to the Joe interview show with me, which I trust and pray will be time well spent. This last rerun

0:16.7

show is a dear one to me, for many reasons. This man, Derek Hawkins, is not only one of my pastors,

0:23.0

but he's also a friend and a man radically changed by God. I see some books and other things in his

0:28.3

future, but the way he poured into this show is worth more than 10 books, in my opinion. I always gleaned

0:34.0

from every interview, truly I do, Almost all guests I have really liked and had

0:38.5

rapport with. But this interview was something extra special. It was the first time that I felt

0:45.0

true Holy Spirit chills and I felt it and sensed it from the minute he came on. It was the

0:50.3

first time a response to a question made me cry. Derek spoke so powerfully about how Jesus rescued him and how we can become more than our past.

1:00.2

I just felt not only the presence of God, but the humility and gratitude of a man who felt truly rescued by him.

1:06.4

It was a church service on the air.

1:08.7

Truly is one of my favorite interviews ever. We talked about race.

1:12.9

We talked about the church. We were both really honest. It was very special to me. And get this,

1:18.9

Derek had never been on a podcast before. It was his very first one ever. I was even more

1:25.1

blown away by that. And you will be too when you listen to my pastor

1:28.5

and friend, Derek Hawkins. So a lot of my listeners won't know who you are right off, Derek,

1:39.3

but that's one of the reasons I'm having you on because people need to hear from you. I want you to give us a little

1:45.9

piece of your background, but first, I want everyone to know that you're one of my pastors at my

1:49.9

church, the refuge. You pastor one of our out-of-town campuses. When I've heard you preach, I have loved it

1:55.9

because you are anointed, my friend. You really are. Thank you so much, Lisa. Thank you so much for this

awesome opportunity to be able to share our story. A little bit about my background. I came from a
