Today, I'm going to speak about one of the great existential dilemmas of our time, building a personal website.

We've all known the agony of trying to come up with the perfect one-sentence way to sum

yourself up. A bio that's not too long, not too short, that doesn't undersell you, but that also

doesn't sound totally self-aggrandizing.

Sometimes I really think that the true definition of freedom would be simply not having a personal website at all, to have the burden of needing to define myself succinctly, permanently

lifted. What a relief that would be. I'm joking, of course, about this being one of the

great existential dilemmas of our time. But only a little. I think that the way that our existing

cultural context demands that we manufacture an identity with these very clear

boundaries and objectives has some very real ramifications for how we express ourselves

and how we share our voices and whether or not we feel able to evolve and reveal ourselves in the ways that feel natural.

And I think that we often end up suppressing or not tending to certain parts of ourselves

because they don't fit into this seamless personal brand narrative that we're expected

to present on our websites or on our social
