As 2019 comes to a close, election day 2020, right around the corner in our expert panel waiting patiently to discuss this week's topic, the economy. But first, Fox News Radio's Jared Halpern has been following the candidates on the campaign trail and gives us an update.

The year began with a clear frontrunner

in the Democratic field. Former Vice President Joe Biden enjoyed a 10-point lead over his closest

challenger Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in the real clear politics average of polling on New

Year's Day. His 2019 ends, Biden leads Sanders by about 10 points in the same polling average. But that's not to say the race has been static. While Biden has maintained top-tier status for the entire year, he did trail Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren slightly in October. In May, Biden hit his high water mark of 41% support in polling averages.

There's been even more movement in polling in early contest states.

South Bend-Mayer Pete Buttigieg has surged to a slight lead in polling averages in Iowa due in the year at 22%.

In March, he was at the back of the pack at 1%. And in New Hampshire, Buttigieg has also

passed most of the field, trailing only 2016 New Hampshire primary winner Bernie Sanders in the
