Hey, I'm Brian Hyatt, and this is Rolling Stone Music Now.

Feels like we could all use a little escapism right now, so it seemed like a decent time to play in my recent interview with

Jimmy Buffett who has a new album out called Life on the Flipside. But we kind of

talked about his whole career going back to the earliest days. we talked about everything from his friendship with Hunter

S. Thompson to the fact that Bob Dylan has named Jimmy as one of his favorite songwriters,

and the two of them actually spent time together on a boat one day, got high, and then

later Jimmy met Dylan again and it was a very different experience.

We spoke about his prowess as a businessman and how that relates to his artistic life.

We spoke about the future of concerts and a whole lot more.

But he started by talking about that new album, Life on the

flip side. Let's hear what he had to say. You take it chronologically when we

started thinking about doing an album. We haven't done one in like seven years and there were two things about that.

I didn't know where the albums would still be viable by then or else you'd be uploading like one or two songs.

But we still are a playing band you know and we've got a

great little studio down in Key West and my creative side had been working in musical theater

with the show on Broadway and then the touring show. So I was

working on that a lot actually rewriting songs and stuff like that and you know

doing changes and things. So once that was all put to bed I yeah, we need to do an album and we had some

good songs that had some ideas and so I concentrated on writing them. And this is like a year ago. So, and we said, we're going to,

I'm just going to concentrate on writing these songs getting some other

the go-to people wingmen that I went and women I use to write with and just concentrate on that and

we want to go to Key West and record and I want to go to Cuba to shoot the album
