It started off as an Esquire magazine supplement.

Gentlemen's quarterly, because it was actually a quarterly supplement.

And then the good folks at Kande Mast bought it a wonder kind of nestspige.

1982.

And it went from being a part of Esquire to a magazine that is actually I think gone along with sort of defined style versus fashion, which is a crucial difference, especially for men.

My guest is a senator and Chief Jim for men. My guest is its editor,

and Chief Jim Nelson, has been in this position since 2003. That's right. But when I first met you, you told me you'd had a different life before, GQ. I had a couple different lives. I started out

after college. I started out working in news, broadcast news. My grandfather had been a

White House photographer from Roosevelt to Rake, and I grew up in D.C. and I just loved that world.

I just thought that's where I'm going to go. My uncle, too, was the first CNN White House producer

back when it was still called, you know, chicken noodle net news.

And it was only in various hotels, the way to hang at their house.

Exactly.

I was so into that.
