Welcome to The Treatment. I'm Elvis Mitchell. It's been a minute since my guest, director F. Gary Gray has been. He was last here for his film, The Negotiator. He's made a couple

films since then, but 20 years ago, and he's made a little film called Friday, that really was

the beginning of refining, bringing an honest version of hip-hop experience of film. He countered

that film the summer of 2015 with a little movie called Straight Out of Compton.

Yeah.

And it's so good to see you back here, Gary. Thanks so much for doing this.

So let's talk about straight out of Compton for a minute before we get back to Friday, the films that fell in between.

Because before we got started, I was saying to you, the film really is kind of breathless in the first hour. It really packs in a lot.

And it's almost a camera moving basically left or right. If you're reading it, there's a lot of that kind of emotion.

That's the idea of almost like we'll watch the movie from a moving car.

Wow. I'm going to take that as a compliment.
