Hey everybody, today's thanks for being here is from a guy named Jim Doherty.

Says good evening. On May 10th, 2014, a dedication was held in Rockford, Illinois at Boyland

Catholic High School to name the baseball field in memory of David McCarthy. David was a close

friend of mine who died in a boating accident a few weeks after our high school graduation.

It was heartbreaking and devastating then and I will carry the memories for the remainder of my days.

The McCarthy family asked me to speak at the dedication to share some memories of David.

We never really eulogized him in 1985. How could we muster that strength?

My name is Jim Doherty, Boyland Class of 1985 and I'm a friend of David's.

In the simplest of terms, David McCarthy was one of the good guys. He was a great friend whose

memory has never left us, especially so in this setting. Today as we dedicate this field,

it's been 30 years since he ran these bases, fielded it at second and proudly wore the number two.
