What's going on, guys? Question number 23 in our 52 weeks to the Catechism.

Looking at different questions to help us grow closer to God in our faith.

I'm using the New City Catechism app. It's really good, not in partnership with him, but I just love it, and I've learned a lot from it. My family has too.

Here we go. Why must the Redeemer be truly God?

Last week we talked about why must Jesus be truly human, and now we look at why he must be truly

God. That is because of his divine nature, his obedience and his suffering would be perfect

and effective. Also, that he would be able to bear the righteous anger of God against sin and yet

overcome death. So it's twofold. That his obedience

and his suffering would be perfect and effective. Not only is his obedience to God by obeying all

the law, all 613 laws from God, laws that show us the real true meaning of life, show us how to

walk in freedom, show us how to be right with God.

He obeys all that, but also his sacrifice and his suffering is effective. It's completely

effective. It's once and for all. It's a song by Charity Gale. Thank you, Jesus for the blood applied.

It has washed me white.

It's effective to wash you completely white before God.

The second part of why we need a God who must,

we need a redeemer who must be God, is this,

that he be able to bear the righteous anger of God against sin and yet overcome death.

So we need a Redeemer who could bear all the righteous, just, holy anger of God towards sin on our behalf,

and then be able to raise from the dead.

One, no one else could bear that. Two, on our behalf and then be able to raise from the dead.
