The Father wants to be glorified by the Son.

The Son wants to be glorified by the Father.

And incidentally, the way they bring it about is by bringing humans with them into eternal life. Why does Jesus ask the Father to glorify Him?

I'd like you to turn with me to John 17, Gospel of John.

I'd like to study the whole chapter with you in the next six weeks,

and tonight that means trying to get through verses 1 through 8.

This, as you, I'm sure all know, is the prayer that the Lord prayed in the gospel of John in the upper room

that last time together with his disciples. You can see at the end of the chapter, verse one of

chapter 18, when Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples across the Kidron Valley

where there was a garden which he and his disciples entered.

Now Judas, who had betrayed him, also knew, etc.

So you see it's the very last thing that he, in the Gospel of John, is praying

before that awful hour when he suffers.

So we want to know what sorts of things are on the heart of the Lord,

and there is so much here that is encouraging to us and revealing of the Father and the Son.

So let's read verses 1 through 5, and then we get time, verses 6 through 8. These things Jesus

spoke and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, Father, the hour has come. Glorify thy son,

that the son may glorify thee, even as thou givest him authority over all flesh,
