You've made it to Day 15 of our Jesse Tree Adventure, and my, oh my, this story is one of my absolute favorites.

Now, you go ahead and grab your day 15 Jesse Tree card and your crown ornament.

All right then.

Today we're talking about David.

Yes, the same little shepherd boy who faced Goliath with just a slinging some stones.

But long before he stepped onto the battlefield, God chose him for something mighty special.

God told the prophet Samuel to go and find a new king for Israel.

And wouldn't you know it, God didn't pick the strongest, tallest, or most impressive-looking son.

No, ma'am.

He picked the youngest, the one out-tending sheep, the one no one expected.

That was David.

Let me read a little part from 1 Samuel 16.

The Lord said to Samuel, do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.

The Lord does not look at the things people look at.

People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

Tiny theologians, isn't that just marvelous?

God doesn't look for the flashiest or the fanciest.

He looks for faithfulness.

And he saw something in David's heart that made him the perfect choice to be king.
