Welcome into another edition of Southbeat sessions. I'm Chris Wittingham and this week's interview

is a sit down with Jamel Hill. Now this was recorded prior to Jamel Hill announcing

her own podcast network with Spotify, which is going to be called The Unbothered Network

and is a podcast network for black women run by black women. But even though Dan doesn't

talk to Jamel about it, it is kind of in keeping with a broader theme of the conversation,

which is Jamel accruing this influence and this power ever since leaving ESPN and how

she's kind of managed post ESPN life and how she's kind of become a trailblazer in this

area, right, of sports, pondering, cultural, pondering, but centered around race and the difficulties

therein and obviously all the public pressure that has come with it. But Jamel has obviously

done incredible things and continues to do incredible things. So here's Dan getting

a chance for a longer form conversation with Jamel Hill.

Hello and welcome again to South Beach sessions. I am Dan Levittard and we've been using

South Beach sessions in recent weeks to introduce you to sort of the spirit of metal,

arc media to introduce you to some of our friends and the people we admire, the inspirations

that are now in this house of creatives with us as we make stuff together in partnership

because we love each other and because we just at this point in our careers want to work

with people we enjoy working with because freedom matters and freedom matters to Jamel Hill

and freedom matters to me. And so with that freedom I wanted to partner with someone creatively

that I know will represent us metal, arc media very well and will teach us things about

her experience that perhaps all of us need to know as we continue to keep growing. She's

had it tougher. Belmont, Jones has said it tougher than any of us in this business as a black

woman pioneer who for many years was the only sports columnist anywhere in America walking
