I I've long wanted to talk to you and watching the new special I heard you on my buddy

Elvis Mitchell's show and you started talking about so much stuff that I'm fascinated by, particularly your approach to getting on stage.

And you talked about on Rogan before, but the way you talked with Elvis about the influence

jazz had on you.

Oh, very much so.

I'm more influenced by Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane than most comedians.

In my comedy.

In your comedy, can you go further on that?

Well, early on the way I approached it was the way Charlie Parker would do April in Paris and he would go off. The song was written but he'd go off and so that's how I when I wrote material every night I did it differently. I just however I approached it fresh.

You would understand the theme, the main theme that you come back to.

And then I moved from that into literally only having an outline and approaching it like jazz.

And now I'm at a point where I don't even have an outline.

I just go up and start playing you just blow that's it yep and by the way I hope it's sweet sounding and I hope I want the audience to dig it and it becomes intertwined with how they react towards me. So it is not

because I imagine somebody just goes up and blows a horn might be kind of arrogant you know what I mean
