All right, Jeff Browning. It is a pleasure to have you on the single track podcast. How are you doing today?

I'm great. How are you?

I'm doing good. Excited to have you on. And I want to start this conversation about a race that is in my backyard here in Salt Lake the Wasatch 100.

At one point in time, it was one of the big dog races in the sport. I still think it's a pinnacle

race in its own way, but I'm eager to see it become a big dog race again. You won it back in 2012

in like 1930, ran it again last year in a thrilling finish. Aside from the fact that it's

part of that Rocky Mountain Slam, what's the draw for you to that race? Well, I was introduced to it in 2003. I paced a buddy. I had done my first hundred in 2002

and then went and and paste in 03. And then I was like, well, I got to do this race.

You know, back then it was a classic. You know, I mean, it was one of the few. It was the third, I think it was the third, a third 100 mile race in the U.S.

It was Western States, then it was Leadville, and then it was Wasatch.

So it's one of the original three.

So back when I got in the sport in 01, it was, it was a big race.

And I came back in 04 and ran it. That's when I started

figuring out that I might, if I'd focus on these things, I might be able to do them okay.

I think I ran like 23, 32 or something like that. I broke 24 and got in the, you know,

Royal Order of the Crimson Cheetah. And, uh,

there was a bigger ceremony back then. Let's just say that. You used to have foot on a

a Burger King crown, you know, paper crown and all that. So,

um, and they came out like with a cape on and like, you know, knighted you.

Over the shoulder you had to kneel.

But I don't think they do that anymore.

At least they didn't do it last year.
