a bona fide legend of comedy generally and late night specifically. The host of NBC of 2010 through 2014 and now the host of

NBC's Jay Leno's Garage, which started as a web series in 2006 and then went on the

air in 2015, the one and only Jay Leno. The 67 year old, a 2014 inductee into the Television Hall of Fame and the 2014 recipient of the Kennedy Center's Mark Twain Prize for American Humor has received 18

Emmy nominations over the years, winning twice, once for outstanding

variety, music or comedy series for the Tonight Show in 1995 and the other time for Outstanding Special Class Short Format

Non Fiction Program for Jay Leno's Garage in 2011.

The latter program has been nominated in that category seven times and could be nominated again this year.

Over the course of our conversation in Leno's office within his massive garage near the Hollywood Burbank Airport where he houses and

maintains roughly 130 cars and nearly as many motorcycles and where he

shoots Jay Leno's garage he and I discussed a wide range of topics among them how a kid who was born in New Rochelle, New York and raised in Andover, Massachusetts, fell in love with comedy, became a stand-up performer, and wound up making a name for himself in LA.

How he and David Letterman became friends on the comedy circuit, and Leno made many appearances

on Letterman's 1980s show Late Night with David Letterman before Leno's selection as Johnny Carson's successor at the Tonight Show in 1992 soured their relationship.
