Matt Frad and Trent Horn, are we not supposed to be Orthodox?

Why are you an Orthodox? Yeah, and there are people. Rod Dreher is an example of this.

So Rod Dreher is a conservative commenter, and he left the church over the scandal,

which I think is a poor thing to do because frankly, you look at studies,

I read one study that said this is as bad if not worse in Protestant churches, and it's

probably even worse in public schools. So I'm sure when you see these scandals in Jewish

Orthodox temples of sexual abuse, I'm sure there's skeletons hiding in the Eastern Orthodox closet.

Right.

You know, however.

So, first argument is that Rod Dreher, as an example of, that you shouldn't

become Orthodox because of the scandals.

So I'm going to agree and disagree with Trent on this.

Why would I agree here?

Well, to simply say, oh, I'm going to become

Orthodox because there are moral and ethical scandals is not a good reason. And Trent is correct

to say that, guess what, there's moral scandals and moral problems, ethical problems in all the churches.

So this is actually a good point. And if that was somebody's sole reason, that's a bad reason.

Also, by the way, you know, Ubi made this point, I think, a while back that if your reason for becoming Orthodox was because you want to be a based trad.

That's not a good reason to become orthodox.

Now, I think that these kinds of questions are good things that maybe get us questioning and looking at orthodoxy, but those are not good enough reasons.

So I actually agree with Trent there.
