Summary

Oprah Winfrey visits Academy Award-winning actress Jane Fonda and her adopted African-American daughter Mary Williams for their first-ever interview together. They discuss how they met and Mary shares what it was like becoming a part of Jane's larger-than-life world. Jane's biological son Troy also joins the conversation, discussing what it was like to have Mary come into their family. 1:20.1	was born in the toughest, poorest area of Oakland, California. Mary was the fifth of six
1:26.2	children. Her parents were both active members of the militant Black Panther movement. Within
1:31.2	her family and neighborhood, Mary was surrounded by drugs, prostitution, teen pregnancy, and
1:37.5	alcoholism.
1:39.2	In 1979, Mary's uncle Landon, her father's brother, noticed that Mary was neglected
1:45.1	by her family. He feared for her safety in Oakland. He enrolled 11-year-old Mary in Laurel
1:51.2	Springs summer camp, a performing arts retreat created by Jane Fonda and her then-husband Tom
1:57.1	Hayden. During the several summers Mary spent at Laurel Springs, she and Jane became close,
