I still think with Jake Tapper as a writer.

I still remember the Halcyon days of slate.com,

but he's become, I guess, a television personality of sorts in the intervening years.

And also a novelist. His new book is All the Demons I Hear, the Further Adventures, I guess we should say, of the Martyr Family.

First of all, Jake, thank you so much you're doing this.

It's so great to be here, Elvis. Thanks so much. Good to hear you again.

And you know, what's weird about this is, as there's a point in the book where the road not

taken is mentioned, and the first line of that poem, that's kind of the way the book is, isn't it?

I mean, it's two paths that diverge and take us back to, they join in a certain point, don't they?

Yeah, absolutely. So the story is about two young people in 1977. They're the kids of Charlie

and Margaret Martyr, the heroes from the first two books. And one of them, Ike, is an AWOL

Marine. And his adventure begins in Montana, where he's on the pit crew of

Evil Caneval, the legendary stuntman.

And his sister is Lucy.

She's a couple years older.

She's an aspiring journalist in Washington, D.C., who starts working for a DC tabloid run

by a Murdoch-esque character.

And they have two very different stories that
