Hello there I'm Chuck Tonnan, this is the Chuck Todd Gasp.

We talk a lot about disinformation and social media around the Arabi Press.

But we may be witnessing the start of a new era in which information channels are so tightly

controlled that it may not be about the social groups you follow, the channels you choose

to watch.

The problem may be what options you are served, not just the ones you find.

I'm talking of course about artificial intelligence and the role it plays in our daily lives

over and over we've seen the dangers that come from flawed programming, think algorithms

do well, these tools can be found in our health system, manufacturing, agriculture and

their flaws do have real or impact just as weak an algorithm called pattern which was designed

to identify low risk federal prisoners.

The early release from jail as part of the first step back came under fire for racial bias.

That was built into the code, it's been a huge problem with algorithms and financial

arenas as well, racial bias being essentially programmed into these algorithms.

My guest today is Jacob Ward.

He's a technology correspondent for us here at NBC News, he's author of the new book,

Balloupe, how technology is creating a world without choices and how to fight back.
