0:27.0	The Special Counsel in his team are asking the Supreme Court to grant an expedited review of
0:32.1	Trump's claims that his attempts to overturn the results of the
0:35.9	2020 election fall within the quote outer perimeter end quote of his official duties as
0:42.0	president and he is therefore immune from
0:44.0	prosecution. Yesterday Trump filed a brief before the Supreme Court urging
0:48.2	them to stay away from the issue for now and let the DC Appeals court rule on it first.
0:54.3	In an 11 page reply to Trump's filing,
0:57.3	Smith tells the Supreme Court, quote,
0:59.7	that suggestion is misguided.
1:02.5	The public interest in a prompt resolution of this case favors an immediate definitive
1:06.3	decision by this court.
1:07.9	The charges here are of the utmost gravity.
1:10.8	The nation has a compelling interest in a decision on respondents' claim of immunity
1:15.7	from these charges, and if they are to be tried, a resolution by conviction or acquittal
1:21.9	without undue delay."
