The Listen my children and you shall hear of the midnight ride of Paul Revere.

So goes the immortal poem of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in describing Paul Revere's famous ride to warn American

Patriots that the British were approaching Boston.

But there was another daring ride, one much less famous, but likely much more important, made by a Patriot named

Jack Jowett in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1781 that may well have saved Thomas Jefferson's bacon as well as three other signers of the Declaration of Independence,

the capture of whom could mean a terrible blow to American morale and the beginning of the end for the American Revolution, the fate of

which in 1781 was hanging by a thread.
