I am on a journey. Last year, I did a rites of passage with Dr. Daniel Black with 50 people

in my Nubia community, and I thought I was observing. You know, I was just there to moderate,

but it was something I think every person, every adult, especially in America, especially

black people need to go through. And I was thinking about your name before we get into the life

lesson. Did you pick your name or was it given to you? My name was given to me.

My name was given to me when I was 30. What was the circumstances? When I was initiated,

I went through a priestess initiation and, you know, changes your nature. So my name was given to me.

And then my name was recently changed. Also, I went

through another process. You know, I do rights of passage for women every other year. And so I recently

went through the noble silence, 10 days of noble silence. And my shamanic training, a year of shamanic training, and they changed my name.

But not my name that people will call me, but the presence that I've anchored in my work.

And it's a Mario Naya, which means luminous teacher of light.

I use that as my signature.

I'm not going to change my name in the world.
