Welcome back to the Lantern Rouge cycling podcast with Benji Naisen Friday evening. We just watched the bass country stage 5 the penultimate stage before the final stage tomorrow on Saturday a stage quote unquote for the sprinters from on Daribia to on Darawa 160 kilometers long.

0:20.0

I think maybe 2,000 meters climbing on the dot a flat-ish finish lots of rollers the two main climbs the Gonza Gare Gaina 2.7 Ks at 6.2%

0:34.0

Crested about 45 Ks from the finish and then the last one the Urkare G climb 5.1 Ks at 4.7%

0:44.0

Yeah it's a day for the sprinters because when you look at the LaFlam Rouge profiles the climbs don't have any black sections on them so that's how you figure out what's a sprinter stage in the bass country pretty outrageous parkour

0:58.0

but break rules also would have a chance but before we get to that Benji go through it in a second I want to mention our show partner LaCole they produce performance cycling apparel in our opinion the best on the market

1:14.0

I've just got some new stuff going into winter here on the Gold Coast I guess it's bored and Benji's going into summer apparently

1:22.0

and yeah if you want to check it out they support the show you can see their link in the description below but the break Benji you had a keen eye on it maybe with the financial interest I don't know we don't talk about that stuff here but what happened with the break today?

1:38.0

Yes the break way I was consisting of right is that we did kind of expect to go in the break way on this stage because have to keep in mind that the stage is on paper sprinter able but it's also break way able like you mentioned it's got those two climbs that make it a semi transitioning stage in a ground tour because on these kind of days in a ground tour the peloton would probably rest the sprinting teams would think this is worth it or this is not worth it to go for it and depending on the steepest of the climbs they'd end the side

2:06.0

whether they do that chasing or not but yes that group existed out of it is killing my pick from yesterday on the podcast for today's stage I was hoping a lot when I saw the pop-up on the on the screen

2:18.0

he has done quite a few things already this season he was 15 the race that on 7 on 1 the industry on earth to Gianato and throughout the season I think has been showing himself quite a few times in the break way and also consistently up there

2:34.0

Julien Bernard is a bit overrided at many people will see as right at is always in the break way but almost never comes out on top and he does often fight for the KM jersey in the options that he does get

2:50.0

and I think I remember him mostly because I I think I watched a UAE tour race or something a few years ago

2:58.0

where Donald Kanga ended up winning a stage I think it was up to Belle Hafeba I'm not sure about it I think Julien Bernard was like second or third on the stage

3:06.0

or at least was playing an important role in that stage if someone can point me towards that stage and tell me what that's about yeah go ahead

3:14.0

and next to them they've got two riders of the current quick step in the break way and not the worst ones at all on a day

3:21.0

you have been picturing as a breakaway rider that can win breakaway stage but also as a rider that can do hilly finishes after a few years of the week

3:32.0

copy of Artali yes and not today unfortunately but we'll go into that later on

3:40.0

a journey also in the team I so far this season I'm not sure what I would expect from journey in a team like the

3:47.0

Cunning Quick Step whether he would be playing a role in some semi-classics and Belgium or whether he would perform into a ground tour

3:54.0

down the stick or something for someone and yeah I think that today we saw how journey can be played out

4:02.0

photos theme and last year he already did a nice breakaway ride at the Giro I think where he won a stage

4:08.0

towards the end yeah eventually yes it was that he won the protest and I think he would he rode away from camp enough
