Summary
Every summer, the family gathered in a large beach house—multiple floors, packed with relatives, constant movement, and the kind of noise you’d expect with that many people under one roof.
Which is why, at first, nothing seemed out of place. Voices carried through the house late at night. Doors opened and closed. It always sounded like someone had just come in or moved from one room to another.
Until they started checking. Each time, the rooms were empty. Everyone accounted for. No one awake, no one moving, no explanation for what they were hearing.
It happened more than once, to more than one person. And what made it unsettling wasn’t the house itself—it never felt threatening. It was the way it sounded like someone was always there… even when it shouldn’t have been.
