Happy first day of fall, and if that surprises you a little bit, let me explain. If you're thinking,

wait a minute, aren't you three weeks early? Yes and no. If you go by the standard

first day of fall, first day of winter, first day of spring, first day of summer that you see

on the calendar, technically it's the beginning of fall equinox. That is September 22nd.

And that is the day that as you're paying attention to the media,

you'll read, it's first day of fall,

but we'll post on social media how happy they are,

that summer's in the rearview mirror,

and now autumn has begun. So you're right in that sense that

I'm early. But the meteorologists, the weather scientists of the world, they go by a different

calendar.

And so the meteorological first day of autumn is September 1st.

It is today.

And their rationale, if I'm remembering correctly, is their calendar is their calendar aligns better to how the seasons feel.

It feels more like fall.

And it's probably tied to average temperatures because these are scientists.

And so there's probably some sort of metric that they use.

They're not just going, oh, it feels like fall, so let's call today fall.

But they just believe that fall, as we define fall, or as they define fall, really begins earlier in September than when the equinox is.

So today is the meteorological first day of autumn.
