Hello, hello, welcome to highbrow. I'm your host, Mina. And today we're gonna be talking about dolls. So this is the

0:22.9

extended version of my dolls video, which I published on Monday, last Monday. So I

0:29.5

initially wanted to talk about dolls because I came across this, well actually let me backtrack.

0:35.3

One, because there's been a lot of Barbie news lately.

0:38.3

And then on my Twitter timeline, there was discourse around the Met Gala where someone had

0:44.3

screenshoted this person's TikTok who was like, why are there no like Barbie themed Met Gala

0:50.3

or like, you know, why is there no Met Gala that's fun?

0:52.3

And they listed the idea of like a Barbie

0:54.6

theme met gala as a potential idea that would be fun. And the discourse on my timeline was that

1:01.4

there were some people who were just like, oh my God, like this person doesn't understand fashion

1:04.8

1:26.6

but also just like as a representation of society and of history.

1:31.3

And so, you know, it led me down this like wormhole where I was thinking about how dolls have actually been such a significant part of fashion history and of our relationship, our personal

1:45.9

relationships with fashion and our personal relationships with history if we look at American

1:49.8

Girl dolls.

1:50.4

So I am definitely excited to talk about this.

1:55.0

Also, this podcast episode is just like, you know, there's just like a lot more stuff that

1:59.1

I wasn't able to fit into the

2:01.0

video. So we're going to be talking about the creepiness of dolls. We're going to be talking
