Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once again rejected a ceasefire with Iran-backed

militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon after directing his cabinet to begin peace negotiations with the country's government.

Last night, I instructed the cabinet to begin direct negotiations with Lebanon in order to achieve two goals. One, the disarmament of Esbola.

And the second, a historic, sustainable peace agreement between Israel and Lebanon.

That's Netanyahu and a video message released earlier today.

At the same time, the Israeli military continued striking Lebanon and issued fresh evacuation orders for parts of southern Beirut.

Two Israeli sources tell CNN, Israel is planning to scale down its attacks as talks take place.

A Lebanese official tells CNN there will be, quote, no negotiations under fire. And two others

said Beirut has not received a formal invitation for talks. Yesterday, Israel launched its biggest

wave of strikes in Lebanon since the war began. More than 300 people were killed and more than

1100 wounded,

according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. A World Health Organization representative

warned hospitals in Lebanon are running out of resources. Probably the country may be

facing a very real risk of critical shortage, including trauma supplies, surgical

materials, blood products, chronic medications, and any other

father disruption could seriously hinder the ability of providing timely adequate care for both

emergency and ongoing health needs.
