This is CBSI on the world. I'm John Batson, visiting with David Diod of the Foundation for

Defense of Democracies. Cease fire underway. What does that mean in the Middle East? Seasfire

means we're not now actively shooting back and forth. However, it is not a resolution. What are you watching

for in these negotiations that are said to be imminent or underway? We can't tell the difference.

Good evening to you. Good evening, John. I think it's very important that you pointed that out,

that ceasefire in this war, despite President Trump's expectations expectations that, you know, peace is imminent

and that the fighting is forever done between Israel, Iran. It's just this one phase of the war.

This is a broader conflict that has gone on between Israel and Iran since Iran became the Islamic

Republic in 1979 and made it its mission

to destroy the state of Israel. That has not ended. That is not changed. Iran will just have to

change tactics. And we will probably see some kind of return of this fight in the future.

What we're looking for in negotiations, look, negotiations haven't started.

I think the Iranians are insisting that on certain principles, that they will not go to zero enrichment,

they're still looking at negotiations as a means of securing their ability to enrich uranium domestically as a means of securing their ability through an agreement to have a pathway to a nuclear weapon.

This is what they did through the JCPOA and this is what they're trying to do now.

And it's not just the nuclear issue that's that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's also the matter of, uh, the

militias. What Iran wants to do or what Iran aspires to is to have sanctions lifted to some

degree, reintegration to the international

communities so it can more comfortably return to the business, and this is the real emphasis

that we lose, or this is the real issue that we lose with the emphasis on the nuclear weapon

almost exclusively. So it can return to regional expansionism through the proxies from a much more comfortable position.

That's what Iran's goal is, the nuclear weapon.
