Today, unprecedented protests in Israel, escalating violence in the West Bank,

and the extremist forces driving both.

Every time there's some kind of attack committed by a Palestinian against an Israeli

settler living in the West Bank.

The local Palestinian community will brace itself for basically revenge attacks.

The Israeli army even has a name for this.

They call it price tag attacks.

Bethan McCurden is the Guardian's Jerusalem correspondent.

A few days ago, she heard news that a suspected Palestinian gunman had attacked some Israelis,

living in a settlement on Palestinian land.

So there were two Israeli brothers who were shot dead when they were driving through

who are on Sunday afternoon.

This is where the attack happened in the town of Huwara in the occupied West Bank.

Two brothers from a nearby legal Israeli settlement were shot while driving in a car.

Israeli forces say they're looking for Palestinian suspects.

When that happened in the context of how tense everything in the West Bank is anyway,

all the Palestinians in the area knew that they had to be kind of prepared for retaliation attacks.

Revenge, the price tag attack, came a few hours later in a clutch of villages.

One was Huwara, another was Zatara.

Bethan was there in the aftermath and residents told her what had happened.
