Good morning, everyone. I'm Kate Baldwin. It's Tuesday, May 19th. Here are your five things.

Number one, the shooting. There are a lot of questions still swirling about the tragedy that unfolded in San Diego yesterday.

A deadly shooting at the largest mosque in that city. Police say two teenagers carried it out,

attacking the Islamic Center of San Diego Monday morning.

Three people were killed.

One of them was a security guard who, by all accounts,

acted heroically and prevented the tragedy from becoming even worse.

Amin Abdullah was a father of eight.

Inside the building he was protecting, young children who attend school there.

I know that he knew he was sacrificing his life for the kids because if he didn't take that bullet, they would easily walk up stairs and then there's just innocent

eight and younger and women and, you know, people that couldn't defend themselves.

The two suspects were found in a car nearby, dead from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

This is being investigated as a hate crime in part because sources tell CNN one of them

left a suicide note that contained writings about racial pride, and hate speech was also

scrawled on one of the weapons that was used in the shooting.

Police say the mother of the 17-year-old suspect called authorities hours before the shooting

to report that he had run away, had taken three weapons from the home, and that she feared he was suicidal.

Number two, the DOJ Fund. The Justice Department has announced a new Victims Compensation Fund,

a wild one, nearly $1.8 billion, not small. And the whole point is apparently to compensate allies of President

Trump who say they were unjustly investigated and prosecuted by previous administrations,

especially the Biden administration. It effectively allows the Trump administration to pick,

choose, and pay his supporters from a government agency, from the Russia collusion investigation
