I've heard it said that we should be kind to everyone we meet because everyone, no exception, is fighting a battle, is struggling with something.

In this study we're going to receive a very kind word from Dr. McGee. He reminds us that God is the great

comforter. Psalm 3418 tells us that. The Lord is near to those who have a

broken heart and save such as have a contrite spirit.

So I would encourage you, as I do myself,

to come to our study in God's word with a contrite spirit,

with a humility that says I need you God and with the expectation that God promises to be near and comfort us in our battles.

Our text in Isaiah 40 pictures God as a shepherd who carries us in his arms, close to his heart. What a tender picture

of a God who will never stop loving us. Now if you don't already have a relationship with
