The Sunday interview shows have returned just in time for the conservative leadership contest to wrap itself up.

This morning both candidates for the top job appeared on a revamped BBC programme, opposite Laura Koonsberg.

With the final vote cast on Friday the expectation is that Liz Truss will be taking over the reins from Boris Johnson.

Koonsberg asked Truss for her response to one of the country's most pressing concerns.

The enormous rise in energy bills.

A lot of people watching this morning want to know what you are going to do now.

We've seen some of the bills that are landing on people's door mats now.

I understand that people are struggling with eye-watering energy bills and there are predictions of even worse down the track.

I understand that and I can say Laura that I will act if I'm elected as Prime Minister.

I will act immediately on bills and on energy supply because I think those two things go hand in hand.

We need to deal with the immediate problem, we need to help people, we need to help businesses,

but we also need to sort out the supply issues that have ended up being where we are now.

And we will talk about those long-term issues, but you've just said you will act immediately to help people with their bills in what form.

Through universal credit, the benefit system or some kinds of flat payments.

What I can say is that if I'm elected as Prime Minister within one week I will make sure there is an announcement on how we are going to deal with the issue of energy bills

and of long-term supply to put this country on the right footing for winter.

That is absolutely vital and I understand that people are struggling, that businesses are also concerned about their energy bills and the impact it could have on their future.
