I don't know what the speech was about in total,

but there was one part of the speech that became world famous

and is still pointed to more than six decades later as an example, even as inspiration for setting really big goals.

President said, I don't know if I've got this word for word, but he set as a national goal before the decade was over of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth.

When he declared that as a national goal, only one American astronaut had been in space,

and that was a few weeks prior, and for all of 15 minutes, didn't even go around the earth,

just kind of shot up, and then came down in the ocean.
