The polls look good for Democrats, but do Republicans have a secret weapon.

I'm Lawrence O'Donnell, sitting in for Warren Olney, and this is To the Point from Public Radio

International, a daily look at the issues Americans care about most. National polls show the Democrats

poised to take over the House and possibly the Senate, but President Bush insists he is

still confident the Republicans will win. What makes him so confident? Does he know something we

don't? Today on To the point, will the Republican

voter vault control the outcome of congressional elections? Will micro-targeting voters

deliver the winning margins Republicans need to hold on to congressional power? And on

First, this news update. President Bush signed the Secure Fence Act of 2006 today,

authorizing the construction of 700 miles of fence along the U.S. Mexican border.

Many Republicans are praising the tough new law, which does not include the

president's guest worker program that he wanted to legislate, something that he has been calling

for for quite a while. Our first guest is Dave Montgomery. He covers immigration in the Washington

Bureau of the Fort Worth Star Telegram.
