Summary

The Ruck has a South African flavour this week as we interview Springboks hybrid hero André Esterhuizen, the centre who can also play back-row. We talk about that innovation, the Boks' fine 2025 and the upcoming Champions Cup clash between his Sharks and Saracens on Saturday.

Will, Alex and Elgan delve into the first round of the Champions Cup, which featured some of the same old issues but good wins for Northampton Saints, Bath, Bordeaux-Begles and the Scottish sides.

Plus, the boys rattle through the 2027 World Cup draw, and a gouging ban for Eben Etzebeth. We ask how the South Africans can be stopped from winning three tournaments in a row, and whether Rassie Erasmus might throw the Italy game.

But like Ben Stokes' dressing room, there's no place for the week on the Ruck.

Was he just taking the Mickey, Brendan McCullum, saying,

are, if anything, Clive, we've overprepared.

0:44.1

He probably was.

0:45.5

I thought Ben Stokes' reaction was way better,

0:47.9

much more on point.

0:48.7

Yeah.

0:49.3

And much more accurate.

0:50.7

If you'd actually watched the four days of cricket

0:52.9

and unfolded it, and the two days in Perth

0:54.8

where it's those moments.

0:56.9

We've talked about it for the England rugby team for the last year.

1:00.4

It's the moments when the game's on the line, how do you react?

1:04.2

And the England cricket team have just lost their heads in all those moments and

1:08.2

the England rugby team were doing the same.

1:28.8

And at least the rugby team seemed to have corrected it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We've tumbled on Tehran, I haven't even introduced Alex Lowe here, if you have noticed. And Elgin Alderman is also here. Sitting here for the silent W in England and Wales cricket board as per. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We'll leave the cricket chat to Athas, Simon Wilde and Lizzie Hammam because we've got to talk about loads of rugby, haven't we?
