Welcome to Searchlight, a survey through Scripture with Pastor John Corson.

It is our desire to bring you a systematic study of the entire Bible,

chapter by chapter, book by book.

Over the past couple of Searchlight programs, we have been looking at the issue of legalism versus grace.

Our study comes from Acts chapter 15, where Paul is making a defense for grace.

This defense was necessary because some people were telling new Christians that in order to be saved,

they also needed to keep certain rules and regulations. But the Bible does not say this.

They were adding to God's word, and we have the tendency to do the same thing. We have been looking

at several reasons why we have that tendency. As we join our teaching, we are finishing up

some thoughts on the first reason, and that reason is that we

sincerely care about people, and we want to give them rules to protect them. With our study,

here now is Pastor John. I don't doubt their sincerity, but they're scripturally wrong,

and they seek to put a yoke upon people,

sometimes because of concern.

And that's one reason.
