It sounds like a Hollywood film about a get-rich-quick scheme. Our hero starts a company that soars to the top, briefly.

Then, as friends and enemies alike discover the companies built on a house of cards,

everything falls to pieces.

That's the story of Movie Pass, the struggling movie subscription service that's now just barely afloat.

Last June, the company reported a quarterly loss of $3 million. Losses have exploded since then. For the quarter that ended in June,

MoviePass lost more than $125 million. Reacting to the huge loss, at least one shareholder

has sued MoviePass parent company Helios and Matheson,

accusing it of fraud. In the meantime, MoviePass has also made enemies of many subscribers,

in part by shrinking the number of movies they can watch with their existing subscriptions.

Some members have turned to Twitter to try to drum up support for a class action lawsuit.
