This week the Catholic Church celebrates the solemnity of Mary's assumption into heaven.

But where do Catholics get this idea?

Is there any biblical basis for Mary's assumption?

Or is this just something the Catholic Church made up a long time ago?

Where do we find this in scripture?

That's what I want to take a look at today

because I have a lot of Protestant brothers and sisters that have a lot of questions

about the Catholic beliefs about Mary

and especially like on this kind of a topic Mary's assumption show me in

scripture where is this and I can understand where they're coming from

because from their perspective this seems to be like

another example of Catholics exaggerating Mary's role in the Christian life.

Catholics seem to be always putting Mary on par with Jesus from their perspective.

You know, they would say, well, you know, Jesus is a king, so the Catholics make Mary to be a queen

and Jesus is without sin, so the Catholics make Mary to be immaculately conceived without

sin and in this case here Jesus ascended into heaven after his resurrection and so the

Catholics have to make up something similar so they

come up with this idea of Mary's assumption into heaven. Again I want to

unpack what the Catholic Church actually teaches about the assumption.

I'll make sure we understand that clearly.

And then I want to back up and take a look at the scriptures.
