Summary

Many Catholics are feeling bewildered in the wake of horrific revelations about clergy abuse. We must, however, go deeper spiritually and theologically to face the present challenges. In times of sorrow and crisis, Scripture and the Catholic Tradition have always pointed to the three crucial acts of penance as a source of healing and hope.

But can my prayer, fasting and almsgiving really make a difference? 0:20.1	The Catholic Church has been in the news a lot lately here in yet another wave of clergy abuse scandal,
0:25.7	at least here in the United States. This has certainly affected many other countries around the world as well.
0:30.9	And in talking to a number of priests and lay parish leaders
0:34.6	diocesan leaders and even bishops there's a lot of different emotions at
0:38.6	work in these times there's a number of people feeling just shock and
0:42.1	horror over what has been revealed and what's been happening.
0:45.0	A lot of others experienced just great sorrow. They're grieving for the church.
0:50.0	I've met people who have anger. They're just angry about what's happened,
0:54.1	righteous anger.
0:55.8	And also there's a lot of fear out there.
0:57.8	A number of people just wondering, what can we do?
1:00.2	And they feel helpless.
1:01.8	And that's what I want to dedicate this week's episode
1:04.5	too what can we do what could we is just ordinary lay faithful do how do we
1:10.1	respond how can we help the church in these troubled times? Now what we're going to
1:14.6	be looking at is not on the political level. We're not going to be examining different
1:18.6	legal solutions or public relations game plan strategies. There's other people thinking about that. I want to take
1:24.0	us deeper. I want to look spiritually, uh, theologically, practically, how can we best respond in these difficult
1:32.3	times? And one thing I want to just highlight right best respond in these difficult times.
