This thing that we have built, from a college education to homeownership, from Social Security to immigration, is one big giant scam that really has only ever benefited one generation. The baby boomers.

Growing up, most Americans were told a story about success. Their lives they were told were laid out

before them. Just jump inside the success

machine and ride the conveyor belt to riches and comfort. The outline of the story went like this.

College, job, married, kids' house retirement. The quintessential American life. Yes, there will be hard

work, they said, but you will be rewarded. The machine always works. Whatever you do, don't doubt

the machine. That's what lazy people do. Entitled people who spend their days dipping their avocado toast and their $8 lattes.

But if the machine ever did work, it doesn't now.
