0:43.3	place across much of the UK recently. I know that as that started to happen, I started to see a lot of
0:49.0	headlines talking about how much social media was to blame for what was going on on the streets of many towns
0:55.3	and cities across the United Kingdom. And it left me wondering how much social media is actually
1:00.5	responsible for what is happening here and how much is it actually much deeper things within
1:06.1	society that are not just the result of social media, but maybe that social media and some actors using it
1:11.8	are picking up on right now. So in this conversation with Hussein, I wanted to tease out some of those
1:17.1	aspects. We talk about the role that social media plays in this, but I also wanted to talk about
1:21.6	the statements and narratives that politicians have been using for a long time, very racist
1:26.9	narratives around migrants and refugees
1:29.3	and Muslims in particular, and also the way that those ideas are pushed out through
1:34.5	mainstream media platforms that a lot of people watch, and that set the stage for something like
1:39.6	this to happen. I know that we often focus a lot on Elon Musk and Twitter and his turn to the far right
1:45.8	recently. And I feel like that leads us to really focus in particular on the negative aspects of
1:51.5	social media. And I'm not here to say that that is not a thing that is happening and that there
1:57.2	aren't a lot of problems with social media and the impacts that it has on society,
2:01.1	as we'll talk about in this conversation. But I think that sometimes we can head down this road
