Good evening, everybody. It is the Mormon newscast. It is Monday, the 11th of May,

2026. We're going to go right to some breaking news. This just came across social media just in

recent hours. Just want to note this. Good evening, everybody that's out there. Glad you've joined us,

but this is not a happy instance.

Elder W. Mark Bassett, a general authority 70 for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,

passed away today at the age of 59. Church officials stated that he suffered a severe brain injury

while visiting St. George, Utah, with members of his family.

At the time of his death, Elder Bassett was currently serving as the executive director of the

church's missionary department where he helped supervise and coordinate missionary efforts throughout the world.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

I'm sure he'll be missed.

And it's a sad moment going on in Mormonism right at the very moment.

Anything you guys want to say in regards to this story, and we'll jump into the news.

It is very sad.

But you know, I hear that visiting St. George will do that to a person.

There have been lots of incidents, huh? St. George, with things that have happened like this.

I will just note severe brain injury. I was just thinking back to little Derek Corden,

which was similar injury that caused his death. Otherwise, we'll just move on here. I'll note

something that Rebecca's got for us regarding Mother's Day.

Yeah, I just wanted to say happy belated Mother's Day to all the moms out there in the newscast audience, listeners and viewers, because of course, you know, it was yesterday.
