Summary

Hey everyone, Chase here. Today, we're tackling a common saying that might be doing more harm than good—"life is short." But what if embracing a longer view of life could lead us to more meaningful achievements and happiness?

Life's Length is an Opportunity

We often hear that life is short as a push to rush through our milestones. But I've come to see life as long and rich with potential. This perspective frees us from the pressure to achieve everything now, allowing us to explore and grow at a pace that suits us.

The Myth of the Prescribed Path

Society has scripted a fast-paced journey for us: education, career, family—all ticked off in quick succession. In today’s discussion, I challenge this rushed timeline. What if the detours and the slow periods are just as valuable as the milestones?

Embrace Exploration Over Expediency

Switching careers or starting new ventures later in life isn't a sign of failure; it's a testament to our complexity and capacity for change. We’ll explore stories of those who found their greatest successes later in life, proving it’s never too late to redefine our paths.

Complement Your Listening with Reflection

As you listen to today’s podcast, consider how taking your time might open up new, unexplored avenues in your own life. Are you allowing yourself the space to grow and change?

behind it, it often creates some bad behavior. And as many of you know, I'm just on the other

0:32.0

but it doesn't change the fact that I believe life is long. And while I grew up hearing that life was short,

0:38.2

just like you, that we ought to make the most of it. Our friends, our teachers and parents,

0:42.2

they meant well. They put that phrase on repeat to get us to make decisions and act. And while I'm

0:47.8

all for action over procrastination and overthinking, the toxic unspoken message that underpins

0:53.6

life is short is that there just

0:55.6

isn't room for mistakes for turning inward or true creation. So enter, familiar phrase,

1:02.9

you better play it safe. You heard that a million times, right? It's not an accident. This is

the title of my newest book. Be sure to get it right, right? Moreover, you better decide on your path, insert, you know, career, relationships, school,

whatever here, quickly or else you'll be wasting your life away.

1:19.6

But I often find myself thinking, what if flailing around without purpose and being terrified

of making a misstep is equally an awful problem.

1:28.3

What if rushing and desperately trying to hit benchmark after benchmark is very clearly a recipe

1:33.2

for disaster?

1:34.7

Unfortunately, that's both how and why most people live in fear.

1:40.3

They play it safe and end up navigating according to a prefab plan without really considering if the life their building is the one they actually want.

1:49.5

It's specifically by allowing outside pressures and the artificial rigid plans of others to shape our days that we get off track.
