Is it wrong to use the English name Jesus when we pray or when we baptize people?

Should we instead use the Hebrew name Yeshua instead of the English name Jesus?

Dr. David K. Bernard is going to address this question on this episode of

Apostolic Life in the 21st century. Dr. Bernard, there's a teaching that seems to be going around,

and there's many variations of this teaching, but it has to do with the proper use of the name

of Jesus. You've addressed this in one of your books, but according to

this teaching, we shouldn't use the English name Jesus or the pronunciation Jesus at all. Instead,

we should use as Hebrew name Yeshua. There's even some proponents of this teaching that assert

that the name Jesus is actually a pagan name,

which supposedly means the pig. This teaching does seem to be accompanied by an insistence

that we adhere to Old Testament rituals and celebrate Old Testament feasts. What's your response

to this teaching or variations of this teaching? This concept is known sometimes as the sacred name movement,

and sometimes they use Yeshua, sometimes they use Yahshua.

Sometimes they also attack the English name Jehovah and say that's a false name.

So yes, there are many variations. And it does have some

appeal to us because we are the people of the name. We are very emphatic on the importance of calling

the name of Jesus, baptizing the name of Jesus. So at first glance, oh, if that's not the right name,

then everything I'm thinking could be skewed.

And then if you bring out, well, the English name Jesus didn't exist because the English

language didn't exist at the time of Christ. So that is a big question. But let me give you,

so the short answer is, if we use the name of Jesus

in our own language, no matter what language it is, God accepts it, not as a magical formula.
